Merkinch Technology Centre clients are varied, from small to medium sized businesses, to large Government organisations. From simple questionnaire design to complex projects. The following lists some of our most recent clients with project descrptions.

Inverness Further Education College (2000)

Merkinch Enterprise is currently involved with a survey in partnership with “Snedden Economics” and on behalf of Inverness College, local learning alliance groups and Community Education. The survey is into the perceived activities of the college particularly in rural areas, with a view to improvements in the delivery of training in conjunction with Life Long Learning. Surveys have been carried out in Ullapool, Kinlochleven and surrounding area with Portree on the Isle of Sky currently being undertaken. This survey is a continuation of a previous survey carried out during 1998.


Highland Festival (2000)

For the client group, Inverness & Nairn Enterprise, Merkinch Enterprise field research team carried out research for the Highland Festival, The Highland Food Festival and the first ever Great Glen Raid. Surveys were carried out throughout the topic areas from restaurants to theatres and loch side venues.


Highlands Out of School Care Federation (2000)

This survey was carried out on behalf of The Out of School Care Federation in the Highlands and Islands as a follow up to a training needs analysis carried out in 1996. The questionnaire distributed by the federation was analysed using SNAP Professional to produce a comprehensive set of spreadsheets from the information obtained.


The Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board (1999)

The client, the Scottish Ski Marketing Group, required the data entry and analysis of just under 500 questionnaires relating to the skiing industry in the Highlands. A by product of this survey was the production of a database for mailing purposes.


Economic Impact of the University of the Highlands and Islands (1999)

Working in partnership with ERM, London for the client group Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE). Merkinch Enterprise were involved in the initial stages of the study, the purpose of which is to measure the impact of the UHI project on the surrounding areas.


Highland Festival and the Highland Food Festival (1998)

During the festival Merkinch Technology Centre were asked at short notice to assist Scotinform for their client Inverness & Nairn Enterprise, to provide researchers covering venues in the Highlands and Islands - not only in Inverness but at locations such as Lochinver in the North, Sleat on the Isle of Skye and at a venue in the Cairngorms car park to name but a few.


Inverness Further Education College Inverness (1998)

Merkinch Technology Centre carried out a survey on behalf of Inverness College and Inverness & Nairn Enterprise in to the perceived activities of the college with a view to improvements in the delivery of training in conjunction with Life Long Learning. Surveys were carried out in a selected area of Inverness with a second area in Nairn to enable comparison of findings.


The Future of Raasay house - Survey of the Population of the Island of Raasay (1998)

Independent Northern Consultants (INC) conducted a feasibility study into the future of Raasay House for their client Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise (SALE). Merkinch Technology Centre have prepared a database for the mailing despatch to the population on the island.


The Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board (1998)

This survey is being carried out throughout the Highland area, and is expected to consist of the analysis of up to 2,000 questionnaires from over 30 hostels, culminating in the production of a comprehensive database of results from visitors etc. using each location including names and addresses for possible future use as a mailing list by the client.


Client Product Market Awareness - Dicksons (Honda) Inverness (1998)

A study was carried out on behalf of the client to target car drivers within the local area to determine their awareness of the location and the general perception of their product. This study required face to face interviews to be carried out utilising simple questionnaires to achieve the desired results, the interviews were carried out at three large supermarket car parks within Inverness.


Survey of Rural Petrol Stations (1997/98)

Contracted by the Environmental Resources Management (ERM), Edinburgh for the client group "The Scottish Office Rural Affairs and Natural Heritage Division".

The general aim of the survey was to undertake research on the economic, social and environmental impacts on rural petrol stations. Phase I consisted of the gathering of information and the construction of a comprehensive database on all rural petrol stations within Scotland. Phase II commenced with surveys being carried out in selected catchment areas around rural petrol stations and finishing with a comprehensive analysis of selected petrol stations throughout Scotland. The last part of Phase II utilised a Computer Aided Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system.


The Economic Impact of Cruise Liner Activity in the Highlands and Islands (1997)

Working with EKOS in Glasgow for the clients, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), we were contacted to carry out interviews with tourists visiting the Highlands on cruise liners calling at the port of Invergordon. Information was gathered on country of origin, percieved quality of their visit and incurred expenditure. Data was gathered by our field research team, the resulting information was coded and computerised and the results provided in a numerical report an spreadsheet format for the client group.


Analysis of Community Enterprises within the Highlands and Islands (1997)

Contracted by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to carry out an extensive survey of community enterprise businesses within the area, what their perceived needs were and their current status. It is hoped that the outcome of this survey will result in a directory of such organisations providing a comprehensive list of who's who within this sector.


Alness Community Survey (1997)

Working in partnership with Highland WEA, we were asked to carry out the data entry and analysis on a comprehensive survey for Ross and Cromarty Enterprise, to identify the needs of the long term unemployed in Alness. The results are expected to be utilised in a proposal for improved support to combat unemployment within the area.


Monitoring of Gaélic Related Tourism in the Highlands (1996)

Independent Northern Consultants carried out a survey on behalf of Comunn na Gàidhlig, amongst visitors at Highland sites taking part in the Failte (Welcome to Scotland) season. Merkinch Technology Centre were requested to perform the data entry and analysis, followed by a comprehensive cross tabulation of results.


Highlands Out of School Care Federation - Training Needs Survey (1996)

This survey was carried out on behalf of The Out of School Care Federation in the Highlands and Islands to assess the training needs of all volunteers and employees within groups throughout the Highlands and Islands area. A suitable questionnaire was devised and distributed for completion by all individuals and by each member group, which resulted in a comprehensive set of spreadsheets from the information obtained.


Survey of the Social Economy in the Highlands and Islands (1996)

Merkinch Technology Centre was commissioned by Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and Independent Northern Consultants (INC) to distribute questionnaires to sectors within the Highlands Social Economy. Using the appropriate survey package for data entry, open-ended coding, verification and statistical analysis (tabulations) were compiled. The study was to provide HIE with a picture of the nature of the social economy in the Highlands and Islands.


South Kessock Community Health Needs Survey (1995 - 1996)

A door-to-door survey commissioned by the Health Promotion Department of the Highland Health Board. The purpose of the survey was to determine the opinion of members of the community on how they perceive the health and social services available to them. The review also looked into the actual health of residents surveyed.


Employment in the Environment Sector (1995)

Merkinch Technology Centre was selected by Independent Northern Consultants to enter, code and analyse questionnaires from this survey leading to the creation of a database of those organisations surveyed. Prepared for the Network Strategy of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.


Dolphin Awareness Initiative (1995)

Working with EKOS Economic Consultants to survey the outcome of Scottish Natural Heritage’s Dolphin Awareness Scheme. The survey consisted of telephone interviews (CATI) and postal questionnaires. The research assessed the impact of SNH’s promotional strategy.


Community Business Initiatives (1994 - 1995)

To research and identify viable business opportunities in the Merkinch ward. Training initiatives were developed to assist in the production of feasibility studies and business plans to those businesses that showed market potential.


Evaluation of Cowal Initiative (1994)

Commissioned by EKOS to supervise 200 in-street and door-to-door interviews. The review was conducted to assess the opinion of local residents on the improvements made in the Cowal area. Data preparation involved coding responses, processing data, verification of responses and data analysis.
