Management Team Profile
Chris Cairns, Managing Director
Chris has been a Seasonal Ranger with the National Trust for Scotland and a path worker with Pathcraft Ltd. In 1992 he established Conserve (Environmental Contractors) to carry out high-quality work to combat footpath erosion in a sensitive areas. Conserve carried out footpath construction work throughout Scotland including Glen Sligachan, Mar Lodge and Cairngorm. In 2000 Chris switched the emphasis of the company from practical path construction work to focus on project management and consultancy, with Conserve currently managing high profile projects at Ben Nevis, Cairngorm, Lochnagar and in Assynt. He has managed contracts and provided survey reports, inspection audits and specifications for the major Agencies, Local Authorities and Trusts throughout Scotland.
Since April 2002 when Chris was appointed in his capacity of consultant to take on the day-to-day management of the East Schiehallion Project by the John Muir Trust, he has been providing a long term development and management plan for this fragile upland path. The standard of work has been exceptional, involving the training of volunteers to help restore and manage the damaged mountain routes and the immediate environment that lead to the summit.
In 2004 the company became a Limited Company. Chris has developed a network of high quality path contractors and specialists on which to call when completing projects. All have proved their credentials to produce results on time and to exacting specification. With this flexibility, the business is continuing to grow and the client base to expand into new areas such as the development of specialist mountain bike trails, GIS and Core Path Network audits to meet the needs of the new Land Reform (Scotland) Access Legislation.
