Network 21 is a project of the Highland Wellbeing Alliance. The aim of the project is to support and develop action and awareness for sustainable development through the development of a support network built on previous experience and in partnership with the community development sector.
Network 21 recognises Sustainable Development as ‘development which has a long-lasting legacy, which at best involves generating environmental economic and social benefits and seeks to balance immediate and long-term , local and global needs.’
Network 21 provides the following services:
Advice/Information/Guidance
- Signposting as well as developing information for agency and community development staff and communities.
- Case studies outlining previous experience and projects incorporating sustainable development.
- Series of guidance notes, information resources on subjects to include: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Waste Minimisation, Sustainable Transport, Sustainable construction/buildings and Green Tourist.
Building Sustainable Development into Community Support Policy
- Develop a sustainability checklist for those supporting/advising community development which helps identify opportunities to develop a sustainable community project.
Training
- Provide Training on how to use the sustainability checklist, particularly with community groups and Community Development Workers.
Networking
- Provide yearly seminar on sustainable development issues
- Develop Network 21 Website
Interagency Collaboration
- 5 Wellbeing Alliance Partners to recognise Network 21’s Sustainable Checklist as a method to integrate sustainable development into community projects.
