A NEW service for Merkinch children is being started up next month. As briefly reported in March a breakfast club is being set up in Merkinch Community Centre, running from 8.15 to 8.45 every schoolday morning.
Children often miss out on breakfast for a wide variety of reasons. And yet it is a most vital meal - not only giving the child the energy to make a good start to the day, but also to build up their bodies and their long term health for the future.
For it is when a child is growing that the bricks of life-long good health and a long active life is laid down.
The club - called the Early Bird Breakfast Club - will not only encourage youngsters to start the day with healthy sensible food and good dental hygiene habits, but there will be a fun element as well.
And all for just 50p a day - less than the price of a packet of crisps and a fizzy drink!
The Early Birds take off on Monday 8th May, and parents are asked to return the letter sent out by the school nurse on 20th March as soon as possible so that the Community Centre knows how many to expect.
Merkinch pupils have been invited to design a simple, bold fun logo for the club.
