MURRAY Cochrane of the Housing Department has categorically stated that Coronation Park is DEFINITELY NOT being used as a dumping ground.
In response to a recent letter from Merkinch Community Council he said: "I wish to advise you that there is absolutely no truth whatsoever that the above properties are to become units for ‘anti-social’ tenants. Should you have any further queries (or rumours) in your area, please do not hesitate to contact me."
Among other topics discussed, sometimes somewhat heatedly, at the March meeting of Merkinch Community Council were the following:
Treasurer Donnie Kerr is to attend a site meeting at the site of the proposed 10-flat development at 15/21 Dunabban Street, following an invitation from Councillor Chrissie Cummings (Muirtown) that the council be represented. Among the monthly correspondence there was also a planning application for flats at 3 Abban Street.
Fatal accident reports on two recent tragic deaths of pedestrians in the area did not indicate any "consistency of circumstances" according to the North Western Partnership who are responsible for trunk roads.
However, they say the situation will continue to be monitored. Members heard that coloured anti-skid surfacing had been applied at approaches to the Friars’ Bridge crossings. The Road Safety Officer is to be asked to get in touch with Highland Council’s Safety Officer to see what can be done to educate people on the proper use of roundabouts.
Concern was expressed about the number of vehicles parked in Carnarc Crescent, and it was agreed to write to Mr Cochrane.
The Annual Spring Clean is to take place at Carnarc Point at a date yet to be arranged.
Members were all invited by hosts Park Community Council to come to a Community Council Get Together to be held in the Town House on 29th March.
Among the guests to attend the meeting were former councillor Ali Maclean and the new Social Inclusion Programme youth development officer Gill Maclennan.
Councillor Peter Corbett told members that Linda Lockwood had been seconded as Young Tenants’ Officer.
The Community Council’s next meeting is at Merkinch School on 10th May.
