In brief…

APOLOGIES to the leading lights of Maclennan Crescent Residents and Tenants Association for last month’s report in which the association secretary Alex MacLeod was inadvertently described as the chairman. Incidentally, we hear that the new green fencing in the Crescent is well on the way to being finished.

THE Community House in Craigton Avenue closed on 12th March for its much-awaited refurbishment. But that is not to say the Tool Club has closed. Those stalwarts who run it are braving all weathers from 9am to 11am, Monday to Saturday, with only the shelter of their container “hut” for the duration of the six/eight weeks the make-over is expected to take.

WORK has started on the Grant Street improvements. New blockwork has been laid in the area between Nelson Street and Madras Street junctions which will hopefully prevent a reoccurrence of the flooding the area was prone to. Now we all await new benches of some substantial construction, and planting of the flower beds (when Spring comes!).

FANCY a bit of a dance? The Fly Right Dance Company is going to be holding a workshop at Merkinch Community Centre on the afternoon of Tuesday 24th April, starting 2pm. Whatever your favoured kind of dancing there will be something to suit you as a wide range of dance styles will be covered and good fun is guaranteed for all those attending.

THE new fencing at Glendoe Terrace is causing concern to local tenants, particularly with regard to roaming dogs.

KITCHENS in Birnie Terrace are to be upgraded and heating systems improved. And in Carse Road traffic calming measures may be introduced if local tenants/residents agree to it.

THE famous Clydebank Salvation Army Band are giving a concert in the Trinity Church at 7pm on 31st March, complimentary tickets by ringing 225276.

A PRIZE Bingo and Raffle night held at the Clach Club on 22nd March raised nearly £1000 in aid of the Renal Unit at Raigmore.

THE Dolphin Watch Information Centre at South Kessock pier has gained an honourable mention in the Concordat between Highland Council and Merkinch Community Council as an example of best practice in managing facilities.

ANYONE with young children who fancies getting out of the house will find a welcome at the NCH’s Surestart group sessions at 1 Quayside Court. Ring Colleen Ferguson or Sheila Johnson on 717821 for details.
