FOURTEEN-year-old Graeme Munro of Wyvis Place has much to be proud of.
For in less than two years - he made his debut in the ring in Aberdeen in June 2000 - Graeme has fought his way to become Scottish Youth Champion.
Fighting in the 44kg category, Graeme who is a member of Inverness Boxing Club, was “really chuffed” to come back from Coatbridge with the title last month, after a hard-fought contest which he won on points.
IABC coach Lawrie Redfearn told the News & Views, “Graeme shows the success of our youth policy which we started two years ago.” Well done Graeme!
Lawrie and the boxing club have much to be proud of, for at the same championships another Inverness boxer Andrew Young (24) took the national amateur heavyweight and is in the pool for the Commonwealth Games.
INNER of the inaugural Sandy Mackay Memorial Shielld is Richie Devlin, runner-up Davey Connelly. A total of £500 for the Highland Hospice was raised at this event which took place in the Portland Club on 22 March.
Portland A are winners of the A League with Portland C the runners-up. All the other league positions are still to be decided.
She followed Portree’s Caroline MacDonald home over the testing course at Dornoch. Altogether 260 youngsters from all over the Highlands and Islands took part in the event. Lochardil won the Girls’ team event and Holm the Boys’.
