Did you know there is a correct way to hold a walking stick and an incorrect way? No? Well, I must confess, neither did I, however, I have it on good authority from Rocket Ron of Kessock Road there is and he reckons that the good people of Merkinch should be told. The crook should face outwards and not inwards as most folk apparently hold them. There is a practical rhyme and reason for this - if it’s held inwards, towards the body and you slip, the walking stick will go flying out of your hand, but, if you hold it with the crook pointing away from your body, and you slip, you should be able to keep a hold of it.
