New policemen on the beat

MEET PC Mick Waters, the new face to join PC Dominic Sermanni (featured last month) on the Community Beat in Merkinch.

London-born, Mick Waters was 22 years in the Army – latterly in the Military Police – before joining Northern Constabulary five years ago.

He transferred from the Lochardil/ Holm/ Drummond beat to Merkinch last month; the duo will be mainly based at the new Community House at 37 Craigton Avenue.

Their appointment marked the launch of Operation Eagle in the sometimes troubled area. “This is a low tolerance operation tackling those offences which affect the quality of life – vandalism, antisocial behaviour etc.

“We are targeting repeat offenders with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for the decent people of the area who are in the vast majority.” PC Waters went on to say that the problem of dumped and illegal vehicles was still being tackled “with great assistance from the Housing Department.”

Constable Waters is married and has four grown-up children; two of them have followed in father’s bootsteps into the Army, while another has joined the RAF.
