“TWENTY is Plenty” 20mph zones, such as the one pioneered at South Kessock in recent years, are to be introduced in other residential areas in Inverness in a matter of weeks. The scheme was deemed successful, for drivers’ speeds dropped a little, and the number of accidents did go down.

THE long-awaited refurbishment of the Community House in Craigton Avenue may happen in mid-August. Housing officials told News & Views that although the work was mainly done they were just waiting for “little bits and pieces like computer lines etc”.

AN opportunity to abseil 100ft down the ward block at Raigmore, raise cash for the hospital’s chemotherapy department and perhaps win a prize is being offered by the Macmillan Cancer Relief charity. The event takes place on Saturday/Sunday 25th/26th August and there are still places for those who want to take up the challenge. More details from their office in Bow Court, Church Street on 710863.

IT IS hoped to start a federation of tenants’ groups in Inverness. Representatives of the 15 such groups in the city - eight of them in Merkinch - have been invited to an inaugural meeting in Merkinch Community Centre on Monday 30th July to set up a steering group.

THE Youth Club, for eight to 13-year-olds, will be starting up again in Merkinch Community Centre on Monday 6th August. There is still no word of when the Senior Youth Club will be resuming. It closed early last session because of a shortage of qualified staff
