RESIDENTS in Dunabban Road and thereabouts are highly concerned about a mountain of rubble that has appeared at a building site opposite the flats there.
Youngsters are regularly gaining access to the site, and not only do they fear for their safety, but also for that of passing motorists and neighbours as the youngsters pelt them with the handy-sized stones.
A derelict bungalow has been occupying the site for some years as planners, developers and local people argued over the development. Last year a public enquiry in the Trinity church hall gave the builders the green light, subject to certain modifications. But it was only recently that tons of rubble from a nearby building development was dumped there. William Gray of the builders Wm Gray Construction said the rubble was from a site on Shore Street, the former window construction company's site, and he expected it would only be in Dunabban Road for another fortnight.
Local residents' association secretary Donnie Kerr said they were using the site as an unofficial builders' yard which was "not on". Mary Mackenzie, a nearby resident in Dunabban Road, said it was an eyesore and potentially very dangerous. "Someone is going to get hurt soon," she said.
Others say they feel this came at the worst of times because it is the school holidays.
