PREPARATIONS are well in hand for one of the biggest events of the summer in the Merkinch - the Community Centre's Gala Day.
Last year the afternoon saw brilliant sunshine and the organisers have their fingers crossed that this year the weather will be just as good on the big day, Saturday 24th August. The event will kick off with a procession led by pipers and a Chinese dragon from Grant Street car park to the Community Centre, starting at 12.45pm.
At the Community Centre there will be the traditional
range of stalls and charity tables, bric-brac and
bottle stalls, raffles, hamburgers (organised by the
Corbett Centre) and home-baking - not forgetting the
strawberry teas served up by the Active Adults group.
And as well there will be lots of fun for the children
- the bouncy castle, beat-the-goalie, stocks,
face-painting and other fun activities.
We are also promised "an alternative Gala Queen" to
lend a bit of glamour to the day.
