New face on Merkinch beat

YOU could say that policing runs in the family of Merkinch's new Community Beat Officer Anne Urquhart. For not only was her dad a North police officer - she was born in Stornoway - but her husband, Gordon is a Detective Chief Inspector at Northern Constabulary HQ. Anne first signed on in 1977 as a police cadet in Inverness and was stationed from Thurso to Tain. With her husband Gordon who has impeccable Merkinch roots - his dad was local joiner Murdo Urquhart - she went to Shetland where they stayed for almost a decade. The family returned to Inverness some three years ago and they have two teenage youngsters. This is the first posting Anne has had as a community beat officer, and she is the first female officer to fill the post in Merkinch. She started on 19th July and is looking forward with enthusiasm to continuing the excellent work of her colleagues. "Anyone with concerns regarding crime or other issues that have an impact on the community can contact us on 715555," she said.
