THERE is a lot of information on the World Wide Web, and as a community we now have an opportunity to improve our access to it and promote our area through our new community website.
So far there is just the first page - now it’s your turn to help make the site grow. If you have access to the internet, check out the initial page right now - on www.merkinch.info.
We need local photographs, history and reminiscences supplied by you or your neighbours.
To see how other communities have built up their web sites, you may also wish to refer to www.scottish-communities.net.
You may feel inspired by these and see them as a springboard for creative ideas for our own site. This is an adventure we are on and we don’t know where it is taking us.
There will be a chance to see these community websites at open internet access, available at the Merkinch Gala on Saturday 2nd August, and at the Community House’s open day in Craigton Avenue on Friday 8th August.
On both days you can get involved, tell your story and make your contribution.
There has also been a suggestion that there should be training or learning-by-doing workshops linked to the creation of the Merkinch website. Interested individuals and representatives of local groups should consider attending these sessions.
