OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
For the third year running, Inverness High School have represented the Highlands in the European Business Game final, after winning the Highland heat in Inverness on Monday 14th June with their CD-ROM manufacturing business “Medical Interactive Cancer Education Ltd (MICE)”. The team have just returned from Modena, in Italy, where they came in a close second in a fiercely fought challenge to win the European title on Tuesday 6th July.
The idea, which aims to help child cancer sufferers in a variety of different ways, was the brainchild of team members:
Jade Scobbie (Managing Director), Kelly Munro (Administration Manager), Lisa MacDonald (Production Manager), Jessica Lee (Finance Manager) and Dawn MacKenzie(Marketing Manager).
The team carried out research with medical staff and child cancer sufferers before embarking on their business idea, which aims to produce a CD-ROM for the European market which helps:
- Educate child sufferers of cancer and their families about the disease
- Help parents cope with the situation
- Help families and classmates understand what is going on
- Give children in hospital something interesting to do that will benefit them
- Produce user-friendly reading material about the disease
They say that the CD-ROM will save parents money and valuable time; save hospitals money; will make information more accessible and make learning simple and enjoyable.
A brilliant idea, I think you will agree. And one which should have won the title, however, coming in second, is no bad thing. Well done to Inverness High School, who have done us all proud.
