SOUTH Kessock Residents' Association is now up and running; a 15-strong committee has been formed with Brian Cain in the chair. At their meeting in Merkinch Community Centre on 9th November, guest speaker was Jean Mackay of TIGHRA (Tenants' Involvement in Isles, Grampian and Highlands Rural Areas.
Presentation packs with information about residents' associations and dates of various training sessions were distributed and various committee members signed up for some of these, all held at the Beaufort Hotel. Among other topics discussed at the meeting were:
CCTV – Cameras were all up and running and Councillor Peter Corbett was to organise a visit of all the tenants' groups to see them in operation at the Concierge's. Members were advised that if they wanted to report anything suspicious they should ring the Concierge on 709813 to check that cameras were focused on the area concerned.
Fencing – The fencing at the West Field was finished and work was due to start any day on Kessock Avenue, though there was no word of when Rosehaugh Road would be done.
New doors – These were to be installed as soon as money became available.
On the Web – Members heard that the feasibility of running a Virtual Tenants Association for Highland associations was the subject of a survey. Such an electronic network of associations and individuals would be linked through the internet and email. It would be updated weekly on Housing issues and groups would be able to discuss matters among themselves and also with others from other areas. SKRA agreed to participate in the survey and returned the questionnaire, which had to be in for 24th November.
Next - SKRA's next meeting will be at the Community House in Craigton Avenue on Thursday 7th December at 7pm.
