THE Merkinch Arms has finally had to close its doors for a year. The popular pub was first required to close in February following a covert police anti-drugs operation. During the appeal process the bar remained open, but on 9th November the owner George Maclean's appeal was dismissed. He is to be allowed to keep the Muirtown Lodge Hotel bar open, however; originally it had its licence revoked for six months.
