Representatives from the Merkinch Community Council and the Grant Street Traders, as well as the Highland Council attended a further meeting in late October to discuss the possibility of Closed Circuit Television Camera installation in Grant Street. It has now been agreed to back the Grant Street proposal as part of the Inverness bid for the Scottish Executive Challenge Competition, 2000-2001.

.The Grant Street bid is coupled with a similar one in the Chapel Street area, supported by the Chapel Street Businesses.

The Grant Street bid has been strongly supported by the Merkinch Councillor, Peter Corbett, Councillor Eilidh MacDonald for Highland Council area (Chapel Street), the Grant Street Traders and the Merkinch Community Council, who have pledged £1,000 towards the cost. The idea has also been strongly supported by the Police, who will be providing the Control Room facility for the proposed system.
