It happens regularly. Perhaps you were sitting in Olivers slurping at some super hot coffee and just happened to focus your concentration on the Town House across the road long enough to notice the towns Coat of Arms.
Working out what a coat of arms is all about is an artform in itself but the thing which sticks out from our town’s is the camel. Camel? What were they thinking of. Inverness, capital of the Highlands; hills, tartan, shortbread, rain, great newsletters, not camels? To be exact it’s a dromedary or single humped camel (no, don’t be impressed any 9 year old could tell you that and I’ve just read it in a book). The reason it featured in the Inverness Burgh Coat of Arms is to remind us, that at one time the Burgh had a thriving Eastern trade’. This information was found in a publication produced to commemorate Inverness High School’s 50th year at the Montague Row building in 1987.
(I’ve never seen any camels in Aberdeen either - Susan.)
