You have probably never met James McColl but you have seen his work.
He has been the Highland Council cleaner for Grant Street for six years. Weekday mornings start at 7am.
"The most awkward thing is the bottles, you’ve got to keep your eyes on them for the school kids", he said.
Despite his efforts to protect them, children are the first group to undo his work. No sooner has James left than the children are on their way to school dropping litter as they go.
But James is not bitter. "It’s an on-going thing".
"It’s just a job, you go out and do it. You’ve just got to do it properly", he said.
James does not think there is a magic solution to make his job unnecessary. He said: "There’s not a great deal you can do about it...after it’s been done it is up to the people to keep it that way."
He could get away with doing less. “Now that play areas have been fenced off, they should be left to the park’s department", he explained. But James finds broken bottles which are left in the children’s play grounds . "You can’t leave them lying", he said shaking his head at the thought.
