Discovering city history on your own doorstep

The Ferry

A SERIES of talks on local history starts on Thursday, 14th February in Merkinch Community Centre. Entitled “Discovering South Kessock”, the course will run over five weeks. South Kessock has a long and distinguished history, largely as the maritime aspect of Inverness, and the many successful activities in the area over the centuries have been vital in the development of the city as the Capital of the Highlands.

The talks, which will be given by Norman Newton of the library service and illustrated with slides, are organised by the Workers Educational Association. The course, which is free to those in receipt of benefit but otherwise costs £12, is sure to prove fascinating to anyone living in the Merkinch area.

The WEA have a number of other courses starting in February at various venues. These range from discussion groups on women’s issues to thinking for yourself, creative writing or a book club, meditation or confidence building/assertiveness training, and computing or documentary films.
