Capel Inch: solution to refuge problem

CAPEL Inch play area - under threat from a plan to build a new Women’s Aid refuge on the site - has been saved.

An alternative solution which will see Cairn Housing Association develop the adjacent block of flats in Anderson Street, currently used for housing the homeless, has been accepted by councillors.

The plan will involve the demolition of the present small caretaker’s office and the addition of offices and other facilities needed for the refuge; the whole site will be suitably fenced.

Meanwhile it has been agreed that it would be far more suitable to house the homeless at various council properties throughout Inverness anyway, rather than have them all in the one block of flats.
Local councillors were pleased that a solution had been found, as local feeling had been very strong about the prospect of losing the only green space in the area.
