Giving Merkinch a worldwide presence on the Internet

MERKINCH could soon find itself with a worldwide presence on the Internet if a plan to create a Community Website goes ahead.

Funding is available through the Community Economic Development Programme for such a proposal and there would be no cost to those involved for a couple of years. The plan came from Merkinch Enterprise, which already has its own website, including news items from the News & Views community newsletter. At a meeting in January Merkinch Community Council lent their support for the scheme. The general consensus was that it was a “brilliant idea”.

It is hoped that various bodies, such as the Community Council, the Community Centre, Merkinch Traders and other local businesses and organisations would all take part in the proposed website.
It is anticipated that there would also be photographs of the area plus a history of Merkinch.

It would cost around £10,000 to set up and run for the first two years - thereafter maintaining the site would require only a modest contribution from those taking part.
