Pub’s fate still in the balance

ALL those who were wondering about the state of play at the Merkinch Arms can be assured that the mills of justice are grinding on, if slowly. The Licensing Board revoked the Grant Street pub’s licence in February for a year after hearing that undercover police officers had witnessed drugs transactions being regularly carried out on the premises. Owner George Maclean also had his licence for Muirtown Lodge suspended for six months, however, both premises have remained open following his appeal against the decision. Highland Council, Donald Somerville, told the News & Views last week that the matter was “working its way through the courts” and that there would be a hearing in Inverness Sheriff Court on
