DAYS before the planning inquiry into the Dunabban Road flats plan, the committee had also rejected by 7-5 a plan by Cairn Housing Association to build 15 flats on the site of the former Farmers’ Dairy which lies between Telford Road and Lochalsh Road. Although recommended by officials there was widespread concern that such a development would cause a major traffic hazard in an area which is already congested with parked cars.
Said local councillor Peter Corbett, “As much as we need housing in Inverness, it is not at any price. Instead of filling up gap sites with flats we have to think of the people who live in the area and the people who will live in the flats. There is no place for children to play. Are we going to send them out on to two of the busiest streets in Inverness?”
