The question of the CCTV in Merkinch and elsewhere in Inverness was raised at the Area meeting of the council recently, with pleas being made that cameras should be linked to the police station in Burnett Road where they would be under surveillance.

At present their function tends to be more in the way of furnishing evidence after an incident.
“As ever it is down to funding,” said local councillor Peter Corbett.
