mp33 - Involving young people in Merkinch

Hi there!

Well, we’ve organised lots of interesting and well-subsidised activities and outings over the summer that everyone can afford. Over the page you will find our programme. I f you are interested - you will need to do something about it NOW!

On a more serious note, over the summer we can provide help to anyone who is struggling to fill in applications for a place at the College, grants or bursaries. These forms can often be tricky, so come and get the benefit of our expertise.

Incidentally, our Computing for Beginners sessions are going well. So if you feel you would like to know what it is all about but you don’t know where to start, drop in and see us soon - place are going fast.

Last but not least - we were sorry to see Nicky, our anchor woman, go. The Council made her an offer she couldn’t refuse, we understand! We’ll miss her. However, we now have Caroline to help over the summer - see below.

See you soon…

First Aid class

THE mp33 Girls’ Group is going great guns - this month has seen them learning about basic first aid with Malcolm Lockhead over four Wednesday morning sessions. The Euro-funded 12-hour course finishes on 10th July when the participants will receive a College Certificate.

The Group has emerged from regulars who attended such mp33 projects as the Fun Days, Wednesday afternoon sessions and the TFI Friday girls.

In September the Group will start their regular Keep Fit sessions and the Workers Educational Association (WEA) is to run their inspiring “Choices and Options” course.

Meanwhile, to keep in touch over the summer the Group are going on a couple of family outings, with kids being very welcome. On 31st July they are going to Landmark for the day; the cost of £3 and £2 for children covers transport and entrance fee.
And on 12th August they are going to Nairn beach - again a family day, the cost this time is just 50p per head.

Meet Caroline…

Caroline Allan

YOU’LL see quite a bit of Caroline Allan at No33 over the summer. For she is the seasonal youth worker who will be assisting with the summer programme to see that all goes smoothly. Details of the programme are overleaf.
Originally from Dundee, Caroline came to the Highlands because she is keen on hill-walking and climbing and at first she worked in Tiso’s shop. She has travelled widely - in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA and has been working with young people and coaching since 1993.
