THE Summer Holiday Playscheme at Merkinch Community Centre will run along the lines of the one held at Easter. That is to say, there will be activities for the youngsters, but parents will need to come along with their children as there have not been enough volunteers coming forward.
The Playscheme will run from Tuesday 8th July until 31st July.

DON’T forget, Merkinch Gala is being held on Saturday 2nd August. The event will kick off with a procession from the Grant Street car park to the Community Centre. Besides the usual stalls there will be a barbecue from the Corbett Centre cooks, strawberry teas by the Active Adults and entertainment including Highland Dancers and a martial arts display. One thing that won’t be there this year is the greasy pole, now deemed “a bit of a liability”! Watch out for the News & Views stall - we’ll be there to capture the fun for our September issue.

HAS anyone out there got any old fishing rods or other gear they could let the youngsters of mp33 use? Fishing expeditions have become very popular and mp33’s modest supply of equipment isn’t enough to go round these days. If anyone can help, please contact mp33 on 717639, or drop in to see them at 33 Grant Street.

FLIPERZ holidays start on Friday 5th July and finish on Monday 18th August, however they will be open for day care as usual. Over the summer Fliperz has booked the minibus for a number of trips. Among the ideas suggested for outings are Fort George, Aigas Field Centre, and a farm. Anyone with other suggestions, please let us know, says Denise. The children will also be going to the library to look up books related to the topics they have been focusing on.

FORMER cycle champs, Roddy and Kenny Riddle, who run Bikes of Inverness cycle shop in Grant Street, have taken up running in recent years. And because they know a thing or two about training regimes they are writing a 14-week training programme in the Inverness Courier for novice athletes taking up long-distance running.
