PRIMARY ENTERPRISING

The children of Merkinch Primary School have already proved that they are an enterprising young lot, and this month is no different.

The Primary 7’s have just finished a week long School Enterprise project which helped raise much needed money for a third world charity.

The Primary 7’s scheme involved the whole school from the youngsters in Primary 1 to the older pupils and teachers and entailed donating money to join in a game or sport. The idea came from the Primary 7 teacher Miss Beaton after she watched a video of a charity called the TearAid Fund, a charity set up to aid children in Third World countries by raising money to purchase sport equipment for them.

A board of directors and committee members was set up with the help of Miss Beaton and each pupil voted in held a position of responsibility from James acting as Assistant Managing Director; Stephen committee member responsible for poster production; Elaine, responsible for producing a play for the younger children; Jilly, committee member responsible for gathering the information from teachers on what activities their class would be involved in; Carlie, who was responsible for the production of certificates; Ewan who was the accountant and David, Managing Director.

A list of activities was drawn up which included Basketball, Football, Dancing, Skipping, Rounders, Dodgy Ball and the teacher from each class would choose a game and the children would then Pay to Play.

A grand total of £72 was raised by the hardworking children and a vote of "It was really good and everybody wants to do it again" was given unanimously by the committee members. Well done P7.
