DESPITE a less than glorious turn-out, the charity Race Night held last month in the Clach Club in aid of the Raigmore Cancer Unit Appeal raised a total of £341. Hilary Kirkby, Highlands & Islands fundraising manager for MacMillan Cancer Relief, told News & Views: “I'd like to thank Merkinch Traders Association for their support at the Race Night held in aid of our £1.6 million appeal. Their very generous donation towards the event by way of sponsorship will go directly towards the appeal.”

DON'T forget Tuesday 13 June for a good night out. That's when a concert entitled "Sounds of the Highlands" is being held at Eden Court to mark National Diabetes Week. Comedian Eddie Devine is the compere for a talented line-up which includes singer Alison Rapson, Alasdair MacCuish and the Black Rose Ceilidh Band plus special guest star Paul Anderson. Tickets are £8.50, £6.50 for concessions, from Eden Court box office, tel 234234. Come along and have a good old foot-tapping time.
