Something for nothing?

HOW often does someone offer you something for nothing? Most people believe that when you are offered something for nothing there’s likely some catch, or perhaps a favour to be returned one day. So it may come as a surprise that there are some free initiatives available to you at no cost whatsoever, with no catch at all.

First is free security advice for the over-60s. Few have heard about this scheme which is being run all over the UK by Help the Aged. Initially, this entails a visit from a police officer - either Alistair or myself in the Merkinch area. We will have a chat with you (hopefully over a cup of tea!) about your home security and discuss with you any areas of concern, such as the absence of door or window locks. If any new or additional security devices are required the details are handed over to Help the Aged who in turn forward them to a suitable local tradesman, who will call to arrange a suitable time to visit you.
He will then bring the equipment and install whatever necessary at absolutely no cost to you at all! No catch.
Currently available through this scheme are free door and window locks, smoke alarms, door spy holes, door chains, and locks for garden sheds.

Second is free cycle and property marking. If you have a cycle or any other valuable item of property and wish it to be security marked, then you can have this done for nothing. All you need to do is either to contact our community safety department here at Burnett Road on 01463 715555 or let Alistair or myself know.

Ultra-violet marking pens are freely available and if requested they will be given to you free along with advice on how to use them. This can be very important in identifying whether found property is yours.

To conclude, if there are any issues, problems or concerns that you may wish to discuss with a police officer you can either speak to me or Alistair; or if you feel this is not appropriate contact us through the confidential line on freephone 0800 5871 999.
