THE Breakfast Club, which has proved so successful for Primary-aged children in Merkinch is to come to Inverness High. A pilot project at Inverness High starts the second week back in August for 10 weeks. The club will run from 8.10am to 8.40am Monday to Friday and any parents and staff willing to help in the smooth running of the project are invited to contact Sheila at the New Community School base or ring 235554. It is hoped that the club will give pupils the opportunity to have breakfast with their friends, complete homework, read quietly, listen to music or play board games.

Primary 7 pupils from Merkinch will be among those due to visit Inverness High School on 21st June. The visit will give the youngsters the opportunity to find their way around the school and sample a few classes.
“The day will help the youngsters overcome some of the anxieties sometimes experienced when moving to the ‘big’ school,” says IHS rector Mr Ritchie Cunningham.

THE call has gone out for adult volunteers to come along and help with the school garden at Merkinch Primary (pictured). Thanks to a generous grant from Scottish Natural Heritage the “garden gang” has been able to go ahead with work on the school garden.
Last term so many excellent ideas for developing the garden were put forward that the garden gang could not decide which individual design was best, but it is hoped that most ideas will be included. Everyone wanted lots of colourful flowers, especially those which would attract insects and birds. (See Dolphin page for further coverage).
