YOUNGSTERS from P7 at Merkinch Primary School helped kick off the annual environmental spring-clean on Monday 20th May when they went down to Craigton Avenue to help clean up and repaint a wall which had been defaced by graffiti.
Helping raise the children’s environmental awareness was Lorna Jackson from the Highland Council’s Protective Services department along with Councillor Peter Corbett.
She spoke to the children, pointing out that if the Council didn’t have to spend so much clearing up litter, cleaning graffiti and disposing of dumped cars and household rubbish, they would have more to spend on other more interesting and valuable things.
But the main push was on Saturday 25th when various residents’ and other groups from throughout the area tidied up their local glory-holes.
Protective gloves were available as were sacks and skips to help clean up each area.
