MERKINCH Enterprise has had its policies towards employing disabled people recognised.
Last month Jobcentre Plus welcomed the Grant Street charity as one of eight Highland-based users of the disability symbol for their commitment to employing disabled people. Anne Sykes, newly appointed head of the Disability Section at Inverness Jobcentre presented the successful organisations with their awards.
This means that Merkinch Enterprise, when seeking to fill a vacancy, will interview all applicants with a disability as long as they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The organisation will discuss at least once a year what can be done to make sure they can develop and make use of their abilities. They also guarantee to make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.
Any organisation with the disability symbol has to see that all employees develop a level of awareness of their disabled colleagues.
ME’s Chief Executive Colin Downie said: “Sometimes people applying for jobs don’t mention their disability, but when we know we always give a suitably qualified person an interview.”
