Clach’s Cousin’s

Clachnacuddin FC supporter’s club championing their team in the local watering hole. So what? I hear you all say. Well the pub is called the Manx Arms. Sound familiar? No. This is maybe because this particular supporters’ club just happens to be in the Isle of Man. There are many supporters clubs on the Isle of Man - for instance, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton and other clubs in the premiership and first division, but why would there be a Clachnacuddin supporter’s club in the Isle of Man. Leading member of the supporters club, Sammy Boyd says "We in the Manx branch felt that a club like Clachnacuddin was more in need of support than some of the more glamorous ones. We wrote to the club and ordered £2000 worth of hats and scarves and things like that from them and we wear them with pride. The next thing we have to do is go and see them play." And talking to Peter Corbett at the Football Park about this rather peculiar lot, he told me "Yes, I remember the Isle of Man Supporters Club, I received a letter from Sam a while back. According to him they have about 10 people in the Club, they are all originally from Scotland, there’s no Sassenachs!" The Inverness Club sent through souvenirs, hats, ties and other memorabilia as well as some information and background on the Club, Peter added, "You know we have picked up another couple of Supporters Clubs as well. There’s a crowd from Huddersfield called the Clachnacuddin Appreciation Club which has around 30 - 40 members and a Navy ship called HMS Illustrious, which is based in the Gulf. One of their crew is a young man called Norman Thomson, who actually played for Clach before he joined the Navy, so I’m not sure if this is why they have adopted us or if it is the same reason as the other two clubs: Our unusual name!"

According to Peter, the Huddersfield crowd are planning to come up to see their team play in the not too distant future, and as Peter says "When they do, we’ll make sure that they are well looked after, no doubt about that."
