Thirteen year old Merkincher Jodie Ross has qualified to represent the North of Scotland (from Glasgow North) in the World Disco Championships 1999. Jodie, who lives in Kilmuir Road, has been a member of the Young School of Dancing for the last 5 years and will be going to Slovenia, together with her dancing partner Hayley Gall, 14, in the middle of June.

Jodie, who recently won the UK Under 14’s Disco Dancing annual competition, is hoping to get sponsorship to enable her to participate in this prestigious event and as Jodie’s Mum Rozila commented "It’s a brilliant opportunity for Jodie to represent Scotland in Slovenia, however, it’s a really expensive business just keeping up, her latest outfit cost us £500!"
