THE backing of local communities is being sought by the Highland Council to help save our post offices, which are under threat if the Government insists on paying pensions and other benefit payments directly into bank accounts by the year 2003.

The Council is also seeking support in its campaign to win a better deal on petrol and diesel prices, which are often much higher in the North.
