Roddy laps up the sunshine in Saudi

CURRENTLY enjoying the February sunshine in Saudi Arabia is top Inverness cyclist Roddy Riddle.

The Scottish team captain has left brother Kenny to run their cycling specialist shop, Bikes in Grant Street, and is doing a couple of weeks’ pre-season training in the sun.

Originally the trip was to participate in a Pro-Am event, but unfortunately this was cancelled due to political circumstances.

However, sponsors British Aerospace were happy to fund the Scottish team – six riders and three officials – for a training break that will give them a boost at the start of the 2000 racing season.

Roddy (32) has a pretty busy summer ahead of him, with many events planned all over the country. One of the major races that he is looking forward to is a nine-day event in Ireland.

But the first date in his diary is a 25-mile Team Trial in Aberdeen on 5th March.
