Work in progress at lunch club
FOLLOWING
on from last month’s picture of the Happy
Childhood Memories of Merkinch project, senior citizens at the Friendship
Club last month were somewhat bemused to see what artists Dean Melville (left)
and Evelyn Pottie (centre) were doing with their old photographs.
Some
of the youngsters from Merkinch Community Centre who were also involved in the
project – Debbie, Bethany, Kirsty and Alistair – also came along to the
Friendship Club to see the work in progress.
Dean
explained the screen-printing processes involved and how photographs could be
enhanced in the computer.
He
said they had been delighted with the quality of the pictures contributed and
thanked all those participating, particularly Ivor Souter who had delved into
the Community Centre archives to find some gems. Dean then went on to show
how the first panel covered roughly the first third of the century, the second
from the ’30s to the ’60s, and the third since the ’70s.
The
final prints have now been signed and after framing they will go on show within
the next week or two.
This
project is a collaboration between Merkinch Community Centre and the Inverness
arts organisation Art.tm which is based in Bank Street.
