Water safety worries
MERKINCH
councillor Peter Corbett recently attended a meeting in the Town House which
addressed the problems of harbour and canal safety. Reporting to the Community
Council‘s February meeting, he said surveys had been made of all areas.
A
particular concern among local people was the health and safety implications of
the major building work going on at Gael Force Marine on the old slipway site,
where there is to be a lot of building work over the next eight or nine months.
Mr
Corbett said the company had been notified of the safety requirements. The
council heard that the site was well fenced and had a watchman – Morrisons had
just started work on the site that week.
Donnie Kerr said there were holes in the fence at the back of the Anderson Street flats and also unsafe conditions at the Carse lochan.
