Fun date for summer celebrations

A DATE for the diary - a big summer party celebrating Inverness’s new status as a city is to be held in July. On Friday 20th the fun gets underway with a Mini Highland Games for children and the opening of an exciting two-day exhibition by the RAF in Bught Park.
Tossing the caber and throwing weight for height, using special lightweight foam equipment, are among the events being organised on a come-and-have-a-go basis at the Mini Games. On Saturday 21st the traditional Highland Games will be held

The RAF exhibition at Bught Park will include a number of static displays, including a full-scale Harrier jet and a Jaguar cockpit, a mountain rescue show and a helicopter. Another highlight of the weekend is a 25-minute spectacular by the Red Arrows at Inverness airport, a flypast by veteran planes, and jumps by the Falcons parachute display team.
They will have cameras in their helmets to film their descent and this will be broadcast on the TV news. And a team from Caley Thistle is to be challenged by an RAF team on the Friday evening.

A new feature this year is the traditional music marquee, with local musicians, hosted by MFR’s Andy Ross.
