Tool Club heroes keep service going as offices are refurbished

Community House

THE Merkinch Tool Club is managing to maintain service throughout the transformation of the Community House, despite some very chilly conditions.

Meantime the tool store in Craigton Avenue is manned and open for business between 10am and 11am, from Monday to Saturday. There is a very wide range of both gardening and DIY tools available to members and all the equipment that was the worse for wear, such as the Flymos, has been replaced for the summer season.
The Tool Club, formerly set up by South Kessock residents has extended its area to cover the whole of Merkinch, and the annual fee for membership is very modest. Incidentally, it appears that the term “Community House” - briefly sign-posted on the building as pictured right - is not after all to the liking of the powers that be - it sounds too like Community Centre, it seems. And just as we were getting used to it…

Meanwhile, the “demolition” bit is over and the refurbishing work is well underway. It seems likely (all being well) that the building (whatever it is called) will probably open in around a month’s time. Those with an appreciation of local history will be interested to hear that the beam from which carcases were hung in the one-time butchers’ shop has been retained.
