THE Dolphin and Heritage Centre, located in the former Kessock Ferry ticket office at the South Kessock pier, could be set for development.
The crumbling building often appears to be losing the battle to protect its contents from the elements.
But now there is hope that funds can be found to develop the centre, which opens at weekends over the summer and is popular with both local people and visitors to the scenic South Kessock viewpoint.
Dell McClurg, a stalwart of the group that runs the centre, reported to Merkinch Community council at its April meeting that, following a recent visit by Stuart Black Acting Chief Executive of Inverness & Nairn Enterprise, it was agreed that the money to pay for a feasibility study would be forthcoming. And there were hopes that a plan to develop the centre would also find some financial support. The first thing was to “get something down on paper”, she said.
The annual spring-clean of the area is likely to be held within the next few weeks, but a date has not yet been set.
Dell McClurg also reported to the community council that nothing appeared to have been done about the hole in the sea wall; there was also concern about the danger to Kessock Road from erosion.
