Parking nightmare

I FELT I had to write to the newsletter after reading how the rumour that the Clach Club and football park was up for sale was untrue. It is not that I am not a football supporter, but I personally would be happy to see the place sold, my reason being the lack of parking available while the place is in use.
It is a nightmare to try and go round Wyvis Place when there is something on – i.e. football or Bingo Night in the club.
Must these people leave all their cars parked all the way round from corner to corner. They have no consideration for other people at all.
I cannot understand how the club has permission to be there when it has no parking facilities whatsoever and the sooner something is done about it the better.

Phantom cyclists

NOW that the nights have drawn in motorists are again faced with the terrifying prospect of kids playing around on their bikes in the dark without any lights.
Like little ghosts they dive out of nowhere, off the pavement and into the road with no lights, no bright clothing, and no crash helmets in the confident certainty that nothing nasty can happen to them. It has just happened to me for the first time this autumn, and luckily I was able to stand on my brakes.
How on earth can responsible parents buy expensive bikes for their children and not spend that few pounds more for proper lights and headgear. Surely it is up to their parents to protect their children and ensure that the kids know the dangers to themselves and other road users and pedestrians of having no lights or safety gear.
And, sadly, children are not the only irresponsible ones – I have seen adults on unlit bikes who fondly imagine that if they can see where they are going they can also be seen by drivers. This is not always the case.
Come on cyclists – be fair on other road users: don't be dim!
