THE fenced-in kickabout area adjacent to Grant Street car park came in for criticism at the October meeting of Merkinch Community Council. Donnie Kerr complained that the netting used on the fence was “not fit to put over strawberries”. A local woman had broken her ankle when the loose netting flapped and became caught in her bicycle. Children, he said, were not using the area as much as they might because there were the foundations of old buildings there and someone had skinned their knees. Councillor Peter Corbett and Clair Pieraccini who use the car park frequently said they had never seen the area played in. Mr Pieraccini said it would be better to expand the car park.
