At a meeting of Merkinch Primary’s newly formed School Council in 7th October all but one of the 17 pupil representatives were present. Head teacher Mrs Sheena Morrison explained the roles of the Council and the various officials such as chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary and treasurer. The elections for these posts is on the agenda for the School Council’s next meeting which is to take place on Tuesday 5th November.
Inverness High School held a very successful sponsored walk on 20th September and the proceeds will go towards supporting a wide range of extra-curricular activities including trips, sports teams and theatre visits.
An appeal has gone out to IHS parents and all those interested who wish to support IHS youngsters taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme on a voluntary basis.
The Award is a programme of self-development and leadership training and looks good on your child’s CV! Some pupils in the Merkinch area have already started and carried out a number of expeditions this summer.
There is a new development officer working in the area, Russell Deacon, and if you have any queries or can help in any way he can be contacted at parents’ evenings, at mp33 on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons or by leaving a message on 234785. This opportunity is limited only by the number of volunteers it can attract.
There is a teacher in-service day on 18th November.
