A BOOK written by a Merkincher is due to be published next month.
Sandy Mabon was at the Techie from 1950 to 1955. Recently he attended the highly successful Techie Reunion at the Chieftain Hotel and took the opportunity to tell (warn) fellow ex-pupils about his book which covers his youth as a “Ferry Lad”.
On leaving school Sandy worked for a while as a reporter for the now defunct Highland Herald. He left Inverness in 1957 and now lives in Kent. For 15 years he worked in London in property management, but has now retired and concentrates on his writing. “It keeps me out of the pub and the bookies!” he says.
Sandy started “The Lads from the Ferry” to let his grandsons know what life was like “in the olden days”. The novel runs to 300 pages and is sure to be a popular read, not just in Merkinch, but for anyone who remembers the 50s, 60s and 70s.
News & Views hopes to be able to review the novel in our next issue, and will give details of where it can be obtained.
