FOLLOWING last month’s floods in Inverness it has become clear that quite a high proportion of householders in the city have no house contents insurance. And in Merkinch the proportion of people with nothing to fall back on in an emergency is thought to be even higher.
So how would you cope if the floods had been in the low-lying Merkinch and not, as on this occasion, due to water running off the hills. If your house was flooded and all your carefully gathered possessions ruined, what would you do. You may not think you have much - but just sit down and list what it would cost to replace even the basics.
Councillor Peter Corbett is so concerned at the situation that he is currently looking into an inexpensive house insurance scheme that has been running successfully in Ross-shire and other parts of the Highlands.
You may think it couldn’t happen to you - but that’s what they thought in Smithton!
