THE idiotic practice of littering the River Ness with supermarket trolleys seems, like the river itself, to run on forever.
One reader from Abban Street, who is particularly concerned about the quality of the environment, heard that lack of money was the Council’s excuse for not clearing up. “Inverness city of culture is in danger of having ‘a big hat and no knickers’,” said our reader.
“I, however, was not told it was a lack of money, rather a question of which Council department has responsibility for keeping this area tidy. To be exact they said it was a ‘grey area’.
“While argument rages over the Glebe Street site maybe some thought time and money should be spent to ensure the river is a pleasant place to walk by and live next to. If nothing is done it might be a good idea to ensure whatever is built in Glebe Street has all its windows facing away from the river!
“Could not the supermarkets get together and form a joint trolley recovery squad - but maybe that might make too much sense!”
