To The Editor of The Merkinch News
I write to you with regards of old stories published in your letters. My father Piper Donald (Dan) Dyce used to have bonfires for our family, neighbours and friends every year. My father also played the bagpipes while the bonfire was alight. The bonfires were outside 5 West Drive, now known as Carnarc Crescent. My neighbours then were the Duncans, the Lennox’s, Jock the Durrler and the Mackenzies. My father Piper D Dyce always made sure we had a wee street party. We had Scotch broth and baked our own tatties, with the skirl of the bagpipes around us. All you see down this area now is people wrecking peoples property, gang battles that never end and the scheme seems to be getting worse (not better). Also I’ve lived in the Ferry for nearly sixty four years and I am proud to be a Ferry person. I have lots of good memories and friends in the Merkinch area. I have also brought up 10 of a family who are all proud to be Merkinchers.
I do hope you will publish my letter in your next issue as I am sure it will bring a lot of memories to a lot of Merkinchers.
Kind Regards
Mrs J Shields and Family
